Ventura County’s side of the 101
For owner-led companies in Ventura County, the Conejo Valley is the center of gravity. Thousand Oaks has biotech and the suppliers and service firms that grew up around it, plus a large base of professional firms. Westlake Village, which straddles the county line, has corporate offices, finance and wealth managers. Agoura Hills is technically in Los Angeles County and full of small offices and growing service businesses. Camarillo, farther up the 101, adds manufacturing, aerospace and defense suppliers, and agriculture.
The drive up the 101
The drive from Santa Monica runs up the 101 when it moves, and longer when it does not, and the 35 to 50 minutes on this page is to Thousand Oaks. Camarillo sits at the far end of that range or past it. So Conejo Valley sessions usually happen at your office. A team that wants real distance from its building can come to Santa Monica for a day. For Camarillo teams, a mix of in person and video often works best.
When the biggest customer knows the founder
Many companies here sell to much larger ones. A supplier to biotech, a defense subcontractor in Camarillo, a wealth manager whose clients run big organizations. That creates a particular kind of dependency. The founder personally holds the most important customer relationships, the revenue rides on them, and everyone in the company knows it.
EOS goes straight at that. The Accountability Chart asks who owns sales and customer relationships as a function, not as a personality. The Scorecard puts pipeline and customer concentration in front of the team every week, so the risk is a number rather than a feeling. Rocks turn “we should depend less on one account” into a ninety-day commitment with an owner.
None of it pushes the founder away from the customers who matter. It makes sure the company knows those customers too, so a relationship survives a vacation, a retirement or a sale.
What the first quarter asks
A Focus Day, then two Vision Building days about a month apart. By the end of the quarter the team runs its own weekly meeting, and the founder is sitting in it as one member of the team instead of chairing every agenda item. That shift is small to watch and large to live with.
Owners are often further along than they think. Many already have a strong second in command, a controller, a head of operations. What they lack is agreement about who decides what, and a Focus Day usually produces that agreement faster than anyone expects.

Conejo Valley questions
Do you come to Thousand Oaks and Westlake Village?
Yes. Most Conejo Valley sessions are at the client's office. The drive up the 101 is part of my day, not something your team has to plan around.
What about Camarillo?
Camarillo teams get the same process. Because it sits farther up the 101, I usually suggest the Focus Day and the Vision Building days in person and some quarterly sessions over video.
We are in Agoura Hills. Is that this page or Los Angeles?
This one. Agoura Hills sits in Los Angeles County but works as part of the Conejo Valley, and the drive is about the same.
Do you work with suppliers to biotech and defense?
Yes. The tools work the same way. What changes is the Scorecard, which for a supplier tends to track quality, on-time delivery and how much revenue rides on the biggest customer.
