Working from Santa Monica

Santa Monica is where I work from. When a Westside team wants to get out of its own building for a session, this is where it comes, and that matters more than it sounds. A leadership team doing a Focus Day in its own conference room gets pulled into email at every break. A different address is a small forcing function, and the conversation gets better for it.

One Westside, several economies

The Westside is not one economy. Santa Monica and Venice have the technology and media companies that grew up here over the last twenty years. Century City is law firms, wealth managers and finance. Beverly Hills adds real estate, private practices and family-held businesses. Culver City has turned into a production and tech town. West Los Angeles fills the gaps with professional firms that chose the area for the people rather than the rent.

What they share is the founder-led company of twenty to a hundred and fifty people whose leadership team grew faster than its habits. Talented people, expensive people, and a stack of decisions still waiting on one person.

The cost of unclear seats

The problem I see most on the Westside is cost. Salaries and rent here make every seat expensive, so a leadership team that is fuzzy about who owns what burns money faster than it would almost anywhere else. Two senior people half-owning marketing is a luxury most companies here cannot afford.

EOS goes at that first. The Accountability Chart names one owner for each function. Rocks give each leader three to seven priorities for the quarter, and nothing more. The Scorecard puts the numbers in front of the team every week, before the monthly financials can surprise anyone. The weekly Level 10 Meeting gets issues solved rather than discussed, which is where the expensive time comes back.

Close to the whole Westside

From Beverly Hills or Century City the drive is short outside rush hour, and Culver City, West Los Angeles and Venice are closer still. I also come to your office if that keeps the team together. A team that would rather not travel at all can start at its own office and move the annual to Santa Monica later. The weekly meeting never needs me in the room at all.

Westside questions

Are sessions at your Santa Monica office or at ours?

Either. The opening days usually go better away from your own building, and teams from across the Westside find Santa Monica easy to reach. Quarterly sessions can go wherever the team focuses best.

Do you work with companies in Century City and Beverly Hills?

Yes. Both are a short drive, and for a team in a Century City tower a session at your own office is simple to arrange.

Which Westside companies are a fit for EOS?

Owner-led companies with 10 to 250 people: agencies, professional firms, tech and media companies, practices and family businesses in Venice or Culver City as much as in Beverly Hills. The tools do not change by industry.

Can part of the team join by video?

Yes, though I push for the whole leadership team in one room for the early sessions. When someone has to be remote, there is a way to set up the room that keeps them in the conversation.
