Where Orange County sessions happen

I work from Santa Monica, and Orange County is a real drive depending on the 405. For most Orange County teams that means I come to you. The Focus Day, the Vision Building days and the quarterly sessions happen at your office in Irvine or Costa Mesa or wherever the team works. Some teams would rather come to Santa Monica for a day away from their own building. Others run part of the process over video. All three work, and we decide together at the start.

What does not work is pretending the drive is nothing and then moving a session because of traffic. So a session day starts at a time that allows for the freeway.

A different shape than Los Angeles

Orange County’s economy has its own shape. Irvine is dense with headquarters and the professional firms that serve them. Costa Mesa and Tustin have manufacturers, distributors and technology companies spread through their business parks. Newport Beach leans toward finance, real estate and investment firms. Anaheim adds hospitality and the companies that supply it, with light industrial along the freeways.

The county also makes more than people assume, and electronics is a big part of it. A founder-led manufacturer is one of the best fits for EOS I know, because the gap between the shop floor and the leadership team is where most of the issues live, and the owner is usually the only person standing in both places.

The first ninety days

The Focus Day builds the basics: the Accountability Chart, Rocks, the Scorecard, the weekly meeting agenda and the issues list. Two Vision Building days about thirty days apart put the vision and the plan on paper, including the three-year picture and the one-year goals. By the end of the first quarter the team runs its own weekly meeting, watches its own numbers and solves its own issues.

For a company in Irvine or Tustin that has grown past the point where everyone fits around one table, that is usually when the owner notices fewer questions arriving at their desk. It is also when the leaders who were quietly waiting for permission start acting like owners of their seats.

Everything after that is rhythm: one full day a quarter, an annual, and the discipline of the weekly meeting. The drive happens four or five times a year. The change happens every week.

Questions Orange County owners ask

Do you come to Irvine?

Yes. Most of my Orange County sessions would be at the client's office, and Irvine is the likeliest address. I plan the drive into the day so the session starts on time.

Would our team ever come to Santa Monica?

Some teams choose to, usually for the annual, because a day away from the building changes the conversation. It is your call, not a requirement.

Can Orange County sessions be virtual?

Parts of them. I prefer the Focus Day and the Vision Building days in person. Quarterly sessions can go virtual once the team knows the tools, and many teams mix the two.

Why not hire an implementer based in Newport Beach or Tustin?

You might, and there are good ones. Choose the person you trust to hold your team accountable. If that is me, the drive is my problem to manage, not yours.
